Premier League: Chelsea vs. Southhampton

After a great weekend game versus Manchester United and a horrible defeat against West Ham, Chelsea was looking for some redemption in the match last weekend against Southampton. The starting lineup for Chelsea was Courtois, Azpilicueta, Captain Cahill, Luiz, Alonso, Hazard, Moses, Matic, Kante, Pedro, and Costa. The starting lineup for Southampton was Forster, Fonte, van Dijk, Martina, Bertrand, Redmond, Davis, Romeu, Clasie, Tadic, and Austin. The match was at Southampton’s home stadium known as Saint Mary’s Stadium and looked to be an exciting game. Straight from kick-off, there was a good run down the inside of the box by Eden Hazard, who faked the defender and put in a dangerous cross to Diego Costa. The shot never came as it was blocked and Forster picked the ball up. In the sixth minute, Chelsea was on the attack again as Eden Hazard made the same exact run in the box, faked a cross, shook his defender and decided to shoot. Hazard managed to compose himself and slot the ball right between Forster’s legs for the first goal of the match. The rest of the half was filled with fruitless runs by Diego Costa and Dusan Tadic as both sides struggled to score. Finally ten minutes into the second half, Diego Costa receives the ball from Eden Hazard and stutters outside the box with a defender covering. With inches of space, Costa hits a wonderful curler to the far post, just beating Forster with his eighth goal of the season. He seems to be the man in form so far and may contend for the golden boot once again this season. The Chelsea defense proved crucial as they sat back and defended very well. The last chance was made by Southampton striker Charlie Austin, who dipped behind the line, shot and scored. The roars of hope by the Southampton faithful quickly died down after the offside flag was raised up, and the goal was nullified. The game ended soon after some midfield play by Chelsea, running out the clock. Already proving to be a title contender, Chelsea is looking for their eighth win in ten games this weekend and is fourth in the Premier League.
