OP Varsity Soccer Update

On October 8, 2016, the Oratory Prep Varsity Soccer Team hosted Plainfield in the Second Round of the Union County Tournament.  Oratory was the eighth seed while Plainfield was the ninth seed.  The two teams had not previously met this season and Oratory entered the game with a record of 8-4-1. During the game it was quickly evident that the two teams were evenly matched.  Oratory controlled more of the possession, while Plainfield had multiple counter attack through balls.  Halfway through the first half Oratory took the lead thanks to Aj Kopacz who deflected a corner kick into the corner of the net. Later, the game remained intense until Plainfield scored off a through ball minutes before the end of the first half.  The two teams were tied 1-1 going into halftime.  The second half remained just as intense as the first half, as the two teams were still evenly matched.  It was not until the final five minutes of the game that scoring resumed, when Plainfield scored off another through ball.  However, Oratory responded within 30 seconds with a goal of their own after a nice shot from Will Gagliano.  The game was tied 2-2 going into the final two minutes of the game.  Unfortunately, Plainfield was able to score the game winning goal with only a minute left in the game.  This goal eliminated Oratory from the Union County Tournament and sent Plainfield on to face the number one seed Scotch Plains Fanwood next week.  Oratory now has an overall record of 8-5-1 and has the rest of their regular season games and the state tournament to look forward to.
