One of the newest members to the Oratory Prep family is Dr. Nick DelTufo. He is Oratory Prep’s Supervisor of Instruction. His job at Oratory is to observe teachers and work with them on their instructional techniques. For example, he may come and sit in the back of a class and observe what a teacher is doing and how he or she is interacting with their students. He then will talk to the teacher about what they can improve, or commend a teacher on something and ask if he or she can share that method with other faculty.

Dr. DelTtufo is from Newark, New Jersey and now currently resides in Mendham with his family, his wife and three children.  His youngest child attends college in Michigan. While growing up, he enjoyed classes that were engaging and made him think. He found economics and math to be the most engaging out of all the subjects he had learned. As we sat down with Dr.DelTufo, we found out many interesting facts about him. You may not know, but his favorite sport is basketball, and he coaches basketball at Caldwell University. He played basketball at Essex Catholic in East Orange and won 3 state championships there. Other than basketball, he enjoys martial arts and has multiple black belts. He has a friend in the UFC who recently fought and beat the former WWE star CM Punk. Most importantly, he is a JETS fan. Dr.DelTufo is a second generation Italian and has visited Italy six times and would go again. His hobbies include reading, travelling, long walks and watching sports. He prefers to read non-fiction books, although his favorite book, Crime and Punishment, is fiction. His musical taste ranges from Tupac to Bruce Springsteen to Beyonce. Clearly, Dr. DelTufo is a well-rounded man.

Although he is in his first year at Oratory, he was in the East Orange Public School System for 30 years. He received a Doctorate in Education from Teacher’s College at Columbia University. Before coming to OP, he played different roles in education. He served in administration as Assistant Principal and Department Chair.  Dr. DelTufo recently retired and joined the Oratory Prep community on a part time basis. When asked about what attracted him to Oratory, he mentioned that he was looking for a private school with a great reputation. The Oratory Prep community has made a positive impression on him. So far, Oratory has exceeded his expectations stating that what he likes best is the family atmosphere that exists within the whole school.  So do we.
