Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump seized his third consecutive caucus Tuesday night, making the grim prospect of Trump winning the nomination even closer to reality.

Going into the Nevada caucus, Trump was projected to win by a large margin over his two top Republican competitors, Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio. Those projections turned out to be spot on; the Associated Press estimated Trump’s victory to be over 20 points ahead of Rubio, the latter was closely followed by Cruz. So what does this mean for the Republican presidential race? With his Nevada win, Trump has secured support in three separate regions of the U.S. With a victory in New England, South Carolina and now in Nevada, Trump has solidified his position in parts of New England, the South and the far West. Essentially, this third consecutive victory bolsters Trump’s position despite his unconventional campaign, which has continued to alienate members of the Republican Party.

Now Trump’s competitors have nothing to do but solider on and hope the coming caucuses in March will thwart Trump’s push for the presidency.
