Today, Thursday February 4th, I felt as if my own family member died. Maurice White, the lead singer of Earth, Wind, and Fire, was pronounced dead on February 3rd.

Mr. White helped found one of the most successful bands of the 20th century. Earth, Wind, and Fire spanned countless genres, and Rolling Stone Magazine describes them as having, “changed the sound of black pop.” Mr. White can be remembered leading songs like “Shining Star” or “Boogie Wonderland.” Many artists have noted taking inspiration from the Elementals. These artists range from Prince and Janet Jackson to LL Cool J, Public Enemy, and DJ Shadow. They are easily thought of as the greatest funk band of all time. Hearing the news of Maurice White’s passing has deeply saddened me, and I send all regards to his family.
