Oratory Prep JV Basketball Recap

Richard Imossi, Staff Writer

Oratory Prep JV basketball is on a roll and shows no sign of stopping. This past week, Oratory’s JV basketball team went 2-0, beating Cranford and Johnson. These two wins bolster Oratory’s outstanding record to 11-2. Many players contributed in both games this week to lead Oratory to victory.

On Thursday, Oratory traveled to Cranford to play the Cougars. Matthew Bopp had an exceptional game, hitting numerous jumpers and crucial shots at the free throw line. Anthony Silvestri also was a decisive force for Oratory, getting a majority of his points on transition layups. Furthermore, Silvestri played phenomenal defense, generating numerous steals and disrupting the Cougars’ offense.  Liam Otterbein shot the lights out against Cranford, scoring 9 points, all on three pointers.

On Saturday, Oratory hosted Johnson in a conference match up. Oratory was once again able to pull out another crucial victory. Billy Skinner was key to Oratory’s victory; Skinner was able to blow past his defender and take it to the rim at will. John Lally showcased his numerous post moves for the fans, scoring in bunches within the paint. Lally also drew three charges for Oratory, a huge momentum builder for the team. Oratory played a stifling 2-3 zone defense against Johnson, which slowed them down tremendously. Oratory did not allow any transition points against Johnson, as they were able to thwart any transition opportunity for the Crusaders.

Oratory JV basketball has improved each game. Over the course of the season the players have developed chemistry among themselves, which is quite evident on the court. This coming week is game-filled for the Rams. On Tuesday, they play at Cedar Grove High school, while on Thursday they meet Jonathan Dayton, at home, in a conference match up. To finish the week, Oratory plays at Governor Livingston High School on Saturday. It should be an entertaining week for the JV basketball team as they hope to improve to 14-2 on the season and a shot at the regular season title.
