Total War Goes Fantasy

Total War Goes Fantasy

Michael Wandel, Staff Writer

As a fan of the PC historical strategy video game series known as Total War, I was shocked and amazed to learn about a new direction the Total War series is going in. That new direction is a new fantasy Total War, coming out on April 28th, 2016, set in the Warhammer universe. The Warhammer universe is a war-torn hellscape in which hordes of demons, elves, orcs, dwarves, humans and loads of other war hungry races fight each other. I myself have little knowledge of the Warhammer fantasy universe, but I do know that it is very violent and intense which makes the perfect setting for the next Total War game. Think of it, giants rushing across a huge field to fight thousands of armored knights with catapults, lightning bolts striking large groups of soldiers and other insane magical powers flying across the battlefield. Gameplay released from Creative Assembly, the gaming company that is making Total War: Warhammer, looks amazing with the battle being extremely detailed and having fun gameplay elements that I think would bring Total War to a whole new level. However, the game has already shown one major sign that could doom the game’s sales before it even comes out: “pre-orders bonuses.”
Creative Assembly has ripped out one of the core factions from the game known as the Forces of Chaos which is essentially a horde of fanatical demon worshippers who fight for their demonic gods against everyone in their path. By removing the Forces of Chaos from the main game Creative Assembly has forced the player to do one of two things. Either you pre-order the game and take the chance of the game being terrible, but the additional faction being included as as DLC after the game comes out. Or, you just play the game without one of the main factions at all. But, we can’t judge Total War: Warhammer until it comes out in April. You can be sure to know that this Oratory student will be waiting anxiously to see if this game will become a golden gem of a game or a rotting pile of manure. We can only wait until then.
