Members of Op’s History Club recently competed in the Western Division of the New Jersey History Bowl. The competition was held on Saturday, March 7 at Phillipsburg High School and featured 19 teams from the region, including 2 teams from Oratory. Accompanied by Mr. McCrystal and Mrs. Geissler, the OP History Bowl team was one of the few rookies at the NJ History Bowl. Despite performing valiantly, and receiving notable scores for a first time appearance, OP did not advance to the National History Bowl in Washington DC. One prevailing theory (created by yours truly) is that our performance in one of the rounds was negatively affected by the fact the speakers first language certainly wasn’t English. In what world do “compromiser” and “composer” mean the same thing? Aside from this unfortunate instance, our teams performed well. Hopefully we will be able to attend the History Bowl next year and advance further now that we have the necessary experience.
