Procrastination

Procrastination

Michael Wandel, Staff Writer

What time is it?! It’s today?! What day is it?! These phrases are commonly used by people who either forget that they’re getting married or who have procrastinated, not that I know anything about marriage. Procrastination is something that everyone does and regrets later. Whether you have to take out the trash or write an essay, everyone will procrastinate doing work.

Some common things people say to defend their procrastination are “I’ve got enough time” or “It’ ll get done” or my favorite “ I’ll get around to it.” These are just some of the many phrases people use to justify procrastination. But, what happens in the end when a person procrastinates? Last minute work. By what I mean by that is having a project due the next day and you didn’t start one bit of it. So, you go crazy trying to get your work done, which leads to more stress and bad work. I’ll admit that this has happened to me before in the past and is really stressful to go through. But why do people procrastinate in the first place?

The answer to that question is very simple; people are lazy. With enough time on their hands to do a project some people will put it off. And that’s easy to do. Just not work and put off work that’s due. But, in the end it catches up to you and your stuck doing days worth of work.  Hours of stress, trying to do work you could have done days ago. It’s time that people lose track off and it’s time that eventually catches up with them. Procrastination is like eating forty McDonald’s chicken nuggets because you had a coupon. At first you may enjoy eating them but afterwards you feel terrible. Also don’t try eating for McDonald’s chicken nuggets, ever.

There’s only one way to stop procrastinating and that’s to do your work. Get off your butt and finish the work. Take breaks after every hour of working and set goals for each day. Maybe set a schedule for doing your work so you will have time to do what you want and get work done.
