Fencing Team January Update

The fencing team is already halfway through its season, with five meets occurring in January. Our most notable meet so far was at Montclair High School on January 10. The foil team, consisting of freshmen Steven Mezzomo and Andrew Lee, and junior Michael Weinhoffer had the most impressive day with two victories in a row against the St. Peter’s Prep team, one of the top ten fencing teams in the state. Our most recent meets were against Millburn High School and Livingston High School. We only won a few bouts against Millburn High School, but we fenced well against some of the best fencers in the state. We won nine bouts against Livingston at Kent Place, which is our home court, and despite technical difficulties, we all enjoyed hosting a team. Our next meet is this Sunday, January 25, at the District Championships, which is a massive mid-season tournament; we are all very excited to see how our improvement since the last tournament in earlier January will lead us to more victories than ever before!
