Speed can definitely come at a price. The Mercedes CL65 AMG, for example, is an astounding flagship coupe that starts at an astonishing price of (as near as, makes no difference) $215,000. Steep, huh? It really is. However, this isn’t about a car that only the supreme elite can purchase. Fun can be had at a low price; yes, even under $40,000. So what cars are the overall best under $40,000? Well, look no further (and in no particular order):
1. Nissan 370z- It has a 3.7 Liter 6-cyclinder engine. It has a nimble and aerodynamic body. It has what most cars in this class do not: fun factor. Combined with superior handling and a 332 horsepower engine lending zippy acceleration- the Nissan 370z is one heck of a car for its rather small asking price: $29,990.
2. Subaru BRZ- Combining forces with Toyota for this special project, Subaru presented its first RWD (rear-wheel drive) sports car in its AWD (all-wheel drive) history. The Subaru BRZ uses Subaru’s fine boxer engine that produces what is seemingly a small amount of horsepower: 200. Although many would like a tad bit more power, many agree that 200 for this car is fantastic. The slim tires provide for excellent drifting capabilities, and the manual transmission that is offered is nothing short of exceptional. Even Jeremy Clarkson agreed that the Subaru BRZ was one of his favorite cars. So obviously then, it has to be on this list. Starting price: $25,695
3. Honda CR-Z- The first hybrid in the world to come with a standard manual transmission. Also, the first sport hybrid. The futuristic layout inside is excellent at night, with a digital speedometer that lights up depending on what mode the driver is in: Sport, Eco, and Normal. It’s not the speediest of the bunch, but it is an awesome handling machine. When in sport, the throttle tightens, alongside the steering wheel and dampers. All of the 130 horses (in the normal and 197 in the HPD) are used to their full extent. Starting price: $19,900.
4. Mazda Miata- Often hailed as the best car for its price by various auto magazines, the Mazda Miata holds a dear spot in many of the hearts of the gear heads. The 158 BHP (horsepower) engine that is combined with the sporty handling of the “Zoom-Zoom” company, is available for a mere $23,000. Rumor has it that it will be updated in the coming months.
