Last Friday the upper school cross country team ran at the Greystone Invitational and had a very successful outing. Both Varsity and JV won their respective races in the small school division. The Varsity squad was led by Junior captain Andrew Vita, who ran a 16:57. It was the first time he ran under 17 minutes in his cross country career. Other outstanding performances were turned in by freshman Michael Cantaluppi, who ran a 17:29 and seniors Brendan Mairs and Max Hubbauer, who ran in the 17:50s. The top five averaged a 17:38, and all members of the top seven finished in the top twenty of the race.
The JV team was equally as successful, beating out thirteen other teams in the JV race for first place. Junior John Kolassa finished third in the race, running a 18:16. Senior Paul Moyer, juniors Brendan Lawlor and Tim Harnett, and sophomore Brendan Mooney all ran sub 19 to help the team to first place.
The success that the cross country team had at Greystone puts them in a very good situation going forward. The Rams will participate in their first championship this Tuesday when they run for the Conference championship. Oratory’s biggest challenger will be defending conference champion New Providence, as well as the always dangerous Dayton team. However the Rams are in a great position to reclaim their throne as Conference champions.
