Thursday, October 9th, OP Varsity Soccer thumped Hillside High in the first round of the Union County Tournament. Sal Mercurio kicked the game off with a bang by scoring early on a penalty kick. Not too long after, Hillside countered with a goal of their own to even the score. Fortunately, Senior Captain James Gagliano scored to give the Rams a 2-1 lead heading into halftime.
The second half was all Rams as the high powered offense quickly poured on the goals truly showing their dominance. Goals from Seniors Jack McKenna and Joey Cappucci and Freshman A.J. Kopacz helped bolster the Rams commanding lead. Finally, OP’s shining star Jack Bizub had the fans tossing their hats as he contributed 3 goals to the Rams’ valiant effort. With a final score 8-2, the Rams move on to the second round to play Union Catholic on Saturday at Cavalero Field. Come out to support the team and go Rams!
