We are officially ⅓ through the young NFL season, and this season has been considered one of the “weirdest” NFL seasons up to date, with teams no one thought being at the top of the list, and some team almost guaranteed to be in the playoffs heading into this year, now on the outside looking in. In this article, I will go over the top 10 teams so far this year, while also discussing some of the main candidates for MVP, Coach of the year, DPOY etc. This list that I put together has been one of the hardest yet, with the competitive balance being at an all time high, its hard to figure out who the true top dawgs are and who are considered “frauds” of the league.
- Buffalo Bills (4-2): What’s going on in Buffalo? Bills were looking like super bowl favorites through week 4, but they as well as Philly have hit a roadblock, losing two straight to the Patriots and the Falcons. This team may be 4-2, but when your wins are against the Jets, Saints, Dolphins, Ravens, all teams that are in the bottom half of the league to say the least, there is reason for concern. They haven’t played a tough schedule, and they’re still losing. Luckily, they still got Josh Allen on their side, the reigning MVP. But lack of playmakers on the offensive side of the ball is a problem, sometimes it just feels like it’s Josh Allen out there, and no one else.
- Green Pay Packers (3-1-1):This Green Bay team you can argue for higher, but for now they rest at 9. This team looked like Super Bowl favorites after week 2, with dominating wins over the Lions and the Commanders, but since then they have taken a step back. Losing to the Browns is a tough one. The offense didn’t look good at all just scoring 10 points, but then coming back next week and scoring 40 points and ending up tying the Cowboys in another tough game. This team has the potential to be great and a powerhouse in the league, but ever since week 2 they have looked mediocre. Lack of Wide receivers is a problem for them, and questions surrounding Jordan Love is another one. The good news is that this team has superstars on both sides of the field in Josh Jacobs and Micah Parsons, we just have to see if this team can put it all together.
- 8. Philadelphia Eagles (4-2):The defending Super Bowl champions have dropped two straight, including a blowout loss to the Giants, and something feels off in Philly. They stay in the top 10 thanks to earlier wins over the Chiefs, Bucs, and Rams, but major issues remain. Injuries are piling up on defense, and the offense has been wildly inconsistent—they can’t run the ball, the passing game is shaky, and the defense struggles both against the run and without their top corner. Despite their worldly talent, the Eagles have hit a wall after losses to the Broncos and Giants. Still, as defending champs, don’t be surprised if they turn things around and turn into the team they looked like last year. But for now, there’s real cause for concern.
- Denver Broncos (4-2): Denver football is back, this team can legitimately be 6-0 right now, and that’s scary to think about. Both of their losses are not entirely justifiable, but both losses came on game winning field goals. A stat to know is that both of their losses, they weren’t trailing for one second in the 4th quarter, as they only trailed when the clock struck 0. This team has a great run game with JK Dobbins and rookie RJ Harvey. With Box Nix being a move than serviceable QB. This team is a dark horse to go all the way, and they are in a good spot right now.
- Seattle Seahawks (4-2) How about the Seattle Seahawks!! This team is led by their defense, it’s not the Legion of Boom by any means, but it’s one of the best defensive units in the league right now.. Sam Darnold, which was a very controversial decision to make him their franchise qb back in March, but so far it has paid off, as he is playing some of his best football. JSN is turning into a superstar wide receiver right in front of our eyes week after week, and it’s beautiful to watch. Their two losses, both at home, were on last second plays, they are truly one or two plays away from sitting at 6-0 right now. With a fairly easier schedule than some other teams in the NFC, they should find themselves playing some playoff football.
- Indianapolis Colts (5-1) Deciding to go with Daniel Jones as the Colts starter for the upcoming season back in August has paid off i n every way so far. This team is tied with the best record in football, and for good reason. Daniel Jones looks great, he seems very confident and comfortable with his new team. I believe Shane Stiechen is a great coach, and Daniel Jones might’ve just found his spot in Indy. Superstar running back Jonathan Taylor is a man amongst boys, scoring multiple touchdowns week after week, carrying this tea on its back. There are some concerns, their defense can be a lot better, as there is inconsistency there. They have played a fairly easy schedule, but competitive games against the Broncos and Rams give you reason to believe in this team. The future looks bright in Indy.
- Los Angeles Rams (4-2) This team was just one or two plays away from potentially playing in the super bowl last year, and that is for a good reason. This team is loaded, stars everywhere on the offense. Stafford is playing great as always, with great help form Kyren Willams and superstar wr Puka Nucua, backed up by probably the ebay wr2 in the league in Davanate Adams. This team can match anyone’s offensive firepower. The Rams struggle with inconsistency of the offense from time to time, and have a slight turnover problem. But this team is one of the most dangerous teams right now, and no one wants to see them come January.
- Detroit Lions (4-2) Lions football is here to stay. People thought losing both coordinators over the offseason would make them take one or two steps back from their historic season last year, but so far through 6 weeks that has not been the case. They’re not a perfect team, with some inconsistency struggles via week 1 and last week versus KC. Both their losses are to good teams, playing the best football they had to offer. Besides those games, Detroit has beaten up on everyone else they have faced. This offense recently has been finding their stride, putting up 30+ every week besides last week. This team you will find playing football in January, and they are out for revenge.Their game next week versus Tampa Bay is a huge game, and I expect Detroit to be ready to play. They’re top 3, but as of right now just not top 2.
- Kansas City Chiefs (3-3) I am fully aware that they have the worst record out of all the teams on this list, but there is so much to like about KC right now. The last game against the Lions was a statement. Their offense was clicking on all cylinders, and their defense, still finding their grove, is improving. Patick Mahomes is the best quarterback in the NFL, potential MVP candidate with all the plays he’s making and they’re getting healthy. Getting Xavier worthy back in the lineup is huge,he opens the passing game, stretches the field allowing the Chiefs to run the ball more efficiently, as having 36 year old Travis Kelce being your number 1 throwing option is tough. With the upcoming return of star WR Rashee Rice, which in my opinion, makes them a top two team in the NFL. No one wants to play this team fully healthy right now, their record doesn’t show how good this team is. With an AFC, as weak as ever, don’t be surprised if Mahomes is playing February Football once again, reassuring to the people his true dominance in the AFC.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers (5-1) Remember when Baker was cut by the Carolina Panthers? That feels like decades ago. Baker has his team rolling, playing like a MVP week after week. This offense is stacked, with rising star Emeka Egbuka, Bucky Irving, Chris Godwin, and star wide receiver Mike Evans coming back off injury, this offense is one of its not the best in football. Their defense is also good, led by superstar defensive tackle Vita Vea. This team finds ways to win, whether Baker throws for 150 yards or 450 yards. They are 5-1 for a reason, and they will be a force to wrecken with the playoffs. Their matchup this upcoming week in Detroit will be a huge game, and will tell us a lot about them. For right now, they are the best team in football, as they keep winning. It wouldn’t be a shock if this team is playing February Football in 2026.
