Recently, OpenAI released its scrolling app, similar to Reels and TikTok, called Sora Ai. This platform uses advanced AI to produce lifelike videos that are difficult to distinguish from real-life clips. The AI can also animate 2D animations very well, resembling popular shows in the anime industry. While this may be impressive, the potential implications could be negative for the future. A concern that I have thought about is the career opportunities that this could impact. The saying “AI will steal our jobs” is to be taken with a grain of salt, but in this case, it could be true. With the pure quality Sora is pumping out, it is starting to feel that it could revolutionize the industry, leaving no need for animators, and ultimately resulting in a large job loss. Another negative impact could be scams. Celebrity likenesses, such as Logan Paul, are implicated in the app, combined with the sheer lifelikeness of the AI, could make scamming easier than ever. This is just peer speculation, but it is something to take note of. I have personally tried the app and believe that it is something cool to use, but it should have restrictions so as not to have any real-world impact.
