There are two sports that Oratory students get the most hyped about: soccer and basketball. Buckle up, because we have interviewed two of the top Freshman basketball players who are ready to make a statement: Logan Lutero and Connor “C.T.” Thomas. After sitting down with each, we can both agree that the future for OP basketball is bright. VERY bright.
Our first interview was with Logan Lutero, a top Freshman point guard prospect. Lutero is a quick, flashy player who can make plays on both sides of the ball. From making “tuff” layups to knocking down deep jumpers, Lutero can do it all on the court.
The second player we interviewed was point guard Connor Thomas. Commonly called “C.T.” for short, Thomas has mastered one aspect of the game—three-point shooting. Known for his incredible accuracy from beyond the arc, Connor “C.T.” Thomas, aside from his three-point shooting ability, also has a strong driving ability, mostly involving floaters for easy scores in the paint. In addition to his offensive talents, Thomas is equally tough on the defensive side of the ball and will certainly give anyone trying to score against him a challenge.
Question #1: Are you confident in yourself?
Lutero told us that he is very confident in himself for the upcoming season. He is confident that he will have a good season not only on offense (where he specializes), but also on defense.
Thomas said that, after an offseason of training and practice, he is more than confident in himself for the upcoming season.
Question #2: What role do you want to play for your team this year?
Lutero told us that he wants to play any role his coach says. Whether his coach wants him to take the ball down the court or be a lockdown defender, point guard Logan Lutero is up for the challenge.
“I want to be a winning player,” Thomas said. “I want to contribute to my team and help them win games.”
Question #3: What are your goals for the upcoming season?
“I want to get better and play the best basketball I’ve ever had,” responded Lutero after we asked him this question. Logan also told us that he wants to build relationships and become close to his new teammates.
Thomas stated that he wants to improve over the course of the season and continue to develop as a player. Connor also said that he is looking forward to working together with his teammates and making new friends on his team.
Question #4: Which NBA player do you look up to and why?
Lutero said he studies the play of Derrick White, who currently plays for the Boston Celtics. While Lutero, like White, is an efficient scorer, Logan mainly studies Derrick’s defense, one of the aspects of his game that he is looking to get even better at before the season begins.
Thomas told us he looks up to Kyrie Irving, a star guard who currently plays for the Dallas Mavericks. “He’s fun to watch,” said Connor, who wants to incorporate some of Irving’s flashy moves into his own playstyle.
With talented players such as Logan Lutero and Connor Thomas still only in their first year of high school, Oratory Prep basketball is set for success in the seasons to come. As for OP Freshman athletes, we have only just scratched the surface, and there is still much more to see from players across all of Oratory’s sports. We thank you for taking the time to read The Freshman Forum, because “From the diamond to the diving pool, we got you covered on everything Fresh.”
