As the school year approaches its end, many of us are excited to begin our summer vacation. But before we jump into summer, let’s stop and remind ourselves of something very important. We only get to enjoy these careless summers thanks to the sacrifices of many of our service members. Next week, we remember these sacrifices on Memorial Day.
Memorial Day serves as the unofficial start of summer for many people, and for good reason. It’s the last holiday before the rain starts to subside, and the warm summer days finally become the standard. But it’s also good because we could all use the space before our vacations to take a step back. Throughout American history, people in service roles have laid down their lives in the name of our nation. While we should never encourage war, when war becomes the only way to protect our freedoms or the freedoms of those in need, our brave service members step up to put their lives on the line for those purposes.
We should always remember those who came before us and those who will come after, who give all they have so we may live the lives we have.
