On Saturday April 12th, the Rams headed to Kelher Stadium in Westfield for the annual Blue Devil Invitational. Though the frigid temperatures and rain kept some rival teams home, the Rams braved the conditions and made the most out of the day.
On the sprinting side, the 4×100 Relay consisting of Charlie Spiegle, Kingston Nnadi, Zade Nassoura, and Brody Sheehan set a season best time of 45.17 seconds. This effort led to a fifth place finish and a medal. The Frosh/Soph 4×100 Relay of Brennan McEvoy, Ryan Ezaah-Milku, Marko Kvesic, and Ben Oniwinde finished 4th, running over 3 seconds better than the week before.
The throwers were led by Senior captain, James Martin, who threw a PR of 47-11 to lead his relay of Joey DeMarco and Aiden Lontai to a 3rd place finish. Martin’s PR was the farthest throw of the entire meet.
Senior captain, Declan Kelly, won the 800m race with a PR of 1:58.5. This marks the third straight year an OP distance runner has won the Blue Devil Classic 800m race. In the 3200m race, Junior, Connor Bassalino, finished second with a massive PR of 9:39.4. This time set a brand new school record.
On Wednesday, the Rams will head down to Philadelphia for the legendary “Penn Relays.” Members of the Varsity 4×100, 4×400, and 4×800 will all get to compete at this world-renowned showcase of talent. This marks the second straight year the Rams have qualified for the prestigious event (3rd time overall). The boys have put in the work and are more than prepared to compete at the high school track’s biggest stage.
