One Last Ride

March 13, 2016
November 18, 2015, David Ortiz announced that the 2016 MLB season will be his last. “I thought a lot about it,” Ortiz said in his farewell video on The Players Tribune website, “Every single one of us, athlete-wise, we run out of time at some point. Life is based on different chapters and I think I’m ready to experience the next one in my life.”
With three World Series rings, nine All-Star appearances, six Silver Slugger awards and recently becoming a member of the 500 home run club, Big Papi hopes to make his 2016 season one to remember. Red Sox fans all over knew that this day would soon be happening and knew they would have to go through with it just like the Yankees did with Derek Jeter. Coming off a season that surprised us all, Ortiz belted 37 home runs and drove in 108 runs at the age of 39. Now 40, Ortiz looks to go off a champion.
He’s changed the game of baseball for the city of Boston, giving fans hope when they needed it and bringing a baseball franchise back to the top. He’s provided Boston and Red Sox fans everywhere something to look forward too each and every game. But most importantly, his postseason heroics will be something never forgotten to the city of Boston. With two walk-offs in the 2004 ALCS and a game-tying grand slam in 2013, he led the Red Sox to not one, not two, but three World Series championships. As the days mount on and Boston’s most clutch hitter’s last game approaches, David Ortiz hopes he can lead his city where he has truly become a legend to one more championship.
