Captain America: Civil War Trailer Analysis

Well, it appears that the Captain is going to war. In case you have missed it, the trailer for Captain America: Civil War dropped on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last week. The trailer answers and raises many questions for the film. For those of you have not read the Marvel comic of the same name, allow me to bring you up to speed. Basically a horrible tragedy happens in Stamford, Connecticut that involves the whole town being blown up. To quote the hero Goliath on this explosion, “This is the straw that broke the camel’s back.” And it does. The government passes a law that says super heroes must register their identities with the government to be allowed to continue to operate as vigilantes. Captain America does not like this, so he puts together a team, goes underground, and publicly opposes this law. Iron Man is for the law and has his own team, and tries to arrest Captain America’s team. Without spoiling the end, that’s basically all you need to now.

But anyway, this trailer is very interesting. It shows us many things, and raises many questions. There is a suited man telling Captain America that he has operated with too much power and that the world can’t tolerate this. Then the suited man gives him a giant book with the words Sokovia on it. (Spoiler Alert for Avengers 2) Since in Avengers 2, Ultron picks up the land of Sokovia; there I believe that the events of Avengers 2 will be the reason why the world wants him under control. Since there are not that many superheroes, I believe that the man telling him that he needs to be under control will be the reason why he rebels. But anyway, this trailer has some awesome shots. This movie will have the cinematic debut for Black Panther, and his suit looks amazing. (For those of you who are not familiar with Black Panther [real name T’Challa] picture Batman, but with the brain of Stephen Hawking, and he runs the fictional country of Wakanda). An iconic shot from the comic is Captain America being surrounded by guards, it is a scene that oozes tension and I hope it is as awesome in the movie as this scene was in the comic. And the Winter Soldier and Cap beating up Iron Man looks AWESOME. One thing I am worried about is what Captain America will become. When he opposed the registration law his character was essentially a rebel. His character was essentially reduced to a crazy old man. The only argument he provided for his rebellion was that superheroes need to stay above the law because heroes could be used as weapons by the government. And the lines Cap says to everyone worry me that his character may go down this path. But in conclusion, this trailer shows lots of promising qualities for what could turn out to be another stellar Marvel movie.
