Meet Mr. Tim Roy

Ted Babcock, Staff Contributor

I recently sat down to talk with one of Oratory’s newest staff members, Mr. Roy. This article will help people to get to know him better and see what has changed with his role at OP. Last year, Mr. Roy was hired as the head coach for Oratory Prep’s Lacrosse program, not long before the season. Over this past summer, he joined the elite group of guidance counselors here at OP. Alongside Mrs. Geiseler, Mrs. Krause, and Mr. Broadhead, there should be nothing but success for the students here. Guidance counselors and coaches are very similar in nature; both help mold a young person’s future. When we first met Mr. Roy, before the lacrosse season,  he emphasized that he was “going to make us better young men.” He also emphasized the meaning of a student-athlete. Mr. Roy played lacrosse for many years, but he said “it can only take someone so far” in a meeting before the season. While in the military, he started classes with the University of Phoenix “due to the ease of access.” Once he finished his service, he finished the degree with the University as well. He recently received his Masters from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.

Before landing his newly acquired job at OP, he had been coaching lacrosse for 15 years, adding that he did it to “share his passion” that has only grown through the years. He coached at Delaware Valley, Ramapo, Montgomery, and St. Peter’s Prep before coming here. He has been the head of an elite travel lacrosse program, Leading Edge, giving him the experience an OP coach needs. Although Mr. Roy hasn’t had any experience being a counselor, being a coach for as long as he has, makes him more than qualified. So far he has been enjoying his time here. He added that the transition, thanks to the other people on the staff, has been pretty smooth. With every new change, comes some difficulties but luckily they have been few to none. Just wanting to help students succeed, he is excited about his new role.
