As the winter sports season comes to a close, OP Rowdies should look to shift their focus from basketball and bowling to sports such as baseball, lacrosse, and golf.  The Oratory Prep baseball team is coming off one of the best seasons in school history after recording 15 wins, including an at home state win, and 10 losses. Although the team has graduated 11 players most notably being offensive force Will Logerfo and run scorer Addison Drone, the team looks for underclassmen who are ready to fulfill the currently vacant positions.

The Rams pitching staff has the ‘throw strike’ mindset which forces the pitchers to throw strikes or else they will not be throwing at all. Although it may seem harsh, the Rams staff prided themselves on this last year and worked countless efficient innings while only letting up a small number of walks. The pitching staff looks strong this year with returning three-year letter winner and Vassar commit, Andrew Meisner, who looks to lead the charge on the mound. Other key contributors include crafty lefty Jack Reilly, and hard-throwing Nick DeMarinis.

Oratory Prep’s offense consists of a simple approach; put the ball in play.  Last year, this approach allowed the team to stay focused on the small aspects of offense such as bunts and base hits in the 8 and 9 hole rather than big home runs and monster doubles. This scrappy way of play allows the team to put pressure on opposing teams, forcing them to make the play or make an error.  The offense looks to pick up right where it left off last year with Nick DeMarinis and James Kim leading the way while Joe del Sol, Ben Landis, and myself look to chip in timely hits and consistent offense throughout the season.

With the start of the season rapidly approaching and as the team makes final adjustments before tryouts, the Rams look to have another successful season.  From a fan standpoint, the Rowdies should expect a lot of fun and close games this year, and should make an effort to come to a few games and cheer the team on.
