Last week, Oratory Prep swam against Governor Livingston high school in a cross-town rivalry meet. At first, the meet was close, with OP trailing by only 2 points for the first few events. However, at the 50 freestyle, GL took an unfortunate lead. The first half was well-swam by the OP boys, but the 50 freestyle dug a deep hole for us to get out of.

The second half of the meet was littered with impressive performances from our swimmers, especially Andrew Meisner in the 500 freestyle. Andrew defeated his same-school rival, Pat Heffernan, the current school record holder. Although Andrew didn’t break the record, this meet was a huge step for him to becoming the best 500 freestyle swimmer on the team.

In the end, Oratory lost the meet, but the strong swimming from our boys was a good indicator of our potential for a high place in the state tournament.
