OP Music Ministry

Nick Looney , Staff Writer

The Music Ministry is one of Oratory Preparatory School’s most talented clubs, yet also one of the most unknown (They really need a better advertising department!). After a long journey of trying to track down Justin Oei for an interview on Music Ministry, and or information on the club as a whole (because like I said, it is one of Oratory’s most mysterious clubs). I finally got the information I need for this article: a profile of the Music Ministry club.

Mrs. Clark, our wonderful English teacher and musical artist, and Mr. Van Hoven, Oratory’s new band teacher, coordinate and run the club. Some notable members according to Mr. Oei are including, but not limited to, Graham Hamilton, John Spitznagel, Nick Short, Chris McAllister, Chris Ocker, Jake Nowacki, Steven Fudenna, and Gio Martinetti. You may see them up in the front of Mass, often singing or playing an instrument. This is because the Music Ministry’s main role at the school, and main time to show off, is our monthly Masses. They lead Mass, especially the hymns, and other musical numbers. Their goal is to get Mass participation (as in actually singing, speaking, and reciting during the Mass.

The club practices as needed, usually increasing when a Mass is approaching. If you’re interested, see Mr. Van Hoven, Mrs. Clark, or Justin Oei to join.
