Justin Verlander’s Fulfilling Week

As sports fans know, the Houston Astros won the World Series this past Wednesday, their first championship in franchise history. Many key players helped them obtain their rings: George Springer, Jose Altuve, Carlos Correa, etc. One player, in particular, all-star Justin Verlander, not only achieved success on the field, he has reached a special moment off the field as well. On the diamond in the playoffs, Verlander pitched to an impressive 2.21 ERA in 36 ⅔ innings, striking out 38 and winning 4 games. Overall he has had an impressive career, achieving almost everything a pitcher could accomplish: Rookie of the Year, 6 time all-star, Cy Young Award, AL MVP, Triple Crown, 2 no-hitters, to name a few. However, before this season, the only thing he was missing was a World Series ring. He finally got that ring on Wednesday.

A World Series ring was not the only ring Verlander secured this week. This past weekend he married his longtime girlfriend Kate Upton in Tuscany, Italy. However, Justin missed the Astros’ celebration parade on Friday. In addition, Upton missed the Breeders’ Cup, an annual horse race, held this year at Del Mar Racetrack. She is one of fifteen ambassadors of the race.

Many Houston fans were not exactly happy for Verlander. They criticized him for missing out on an extremely important moment for his teammates and the Astros organization. Some fans’ tweets on Twitter included, “So Verlander went to get married instead of being with his team today?! Not a good look man” and “Justin Verlander needs to hire a better wedding planner.”

Despite an unsuitable timing, Justin Verlander has perhaps experienced the most fulfilling days of his life. Within one week he has reached the biggest milestones he could have possibly attained. In the end, Verlander happily walks away with two rings on his hand.
