Why Swimming is the Best Exercise

For years, the topic of the best exercise has been debated. However, this often depends on your goals and what part of your body you want to work out. In my opinion, the best form of exercise is swimming. As a swimmer myself, I have spent many hours swimming up and down a pool. Allow me to convince you that swimming is the best.

Many exercises help you build stamina or strength; swimming does this and more. If I am under pressure from school or other outside sources, I have found that swimming helps to clear my head and focus on what I have to get done. In fact, I saw my grades increase throughout the OP swimming season last year. This year, I hope that swimming will continue to help me focus on my studies.

Along with mental benefits, swimming provides physical benefits. Swimming works out your legs, core, chest, and arms at the same time. It also is a great workout to build endurance and conditioning. While this does make swimming seem like the perfect way to get in shape (which it is), it takes a lot of hard work. You can’t simply jump in the pool and swim 5 miles. It takes times to build up the muscles used in swimming. But once you do, you can reap the great benefits from this great sport.

Interested in swimming? Be sure to join Oratory’s swim team this winter. With a successful previous year (State Finalists) and more great swimmers returning this year, we are sure to make our mark on high school swimming. It is the perfect time to join the team!
