On October 7, the Oratory Prep Varsity soccer team took on cross-town rival Summit in the Second Round of the Union County Tournament.  Entering the game both teams boasted six wins, but Summit was the favorite with the 5th seed, while Oratory held the 12th.  The game took place on Upper Tatlock Field just a few blocks from both schools.  Many fans showed up to support their schools as the game had been hyped up all week.  The game started off back and forth until Oratory let in an own goal on a Summit corner kick ten minutes into the game.  This didn’t seem to unsettle Oratory, as the game continued its back and forth pace.  That was until, Summit scored on a breakaway twenty-five minutes into the first half.  This marked the end of the action of the first half.  At this point, Oratory was down two goals would have to face this adversity and respond with some goals.  Unfortunately, in the fiftieth minute of the game Summit would again find another breakaway opportunity and convert.  This gave them a three goal lead with less than a half hour to play.  With less than ten minutes to go Oratory found a little bit of hope.  After a foul in the 18-yard box, A.J. Kopacz put Oratory on the board with a penalty kick.  However, this revamped spirit was short lived as Summit would go on to score three more goals in the final five minutes of play.  The game ended with a final score of 6-1.  This eliminated Oratory from the tournament and Summit will go on to face G.L. High School next week.  Now, Oratory has to rebound and get ready for the state tournament in a few weeks.
