Ryan and Rich’s Big Fitness Center Adventure

It’s a normal Monday afternoon. I’ve just come from my Italian II class, and I am dead tired. But rest I may not. While other students pile into their cars or head to DeGaeta Hall’s cafeteria, I head for somewhere different. I go to the DeGaeta locker room and suit up. I fill up my water bottle, and, ready to go, meet Ryan Del Rio and Richard Williams outside the fitness center like I had been doing for weeks. It’s time to get beefy.

We head into OP’s state of the art weight room, complete with a water bottle refiller. No more using a water fountain to refill our bottles for OP men. We start with some cardio. Ryan and Richard start on stationary bikes. There are two sizes, so Ryan and Rich each have a bike suited for them. I, on the other hand, try and set up the elliptical, eventually requiring the help of a caring senior. We get warm, then head over to the weights section. While the three of us do curl after curl, we play a game where we must name an animal starting with every letter, an Oratory classic. We eventually realize how long we have been doing curls and naming animals and decide to move on to other things. None of us use weights to deadlift, but we make use of Oratory’s advanced fitness machines, which have adjustable weights and easy to read instructions on the side. We do leg curls, rows, lateral pulls, every muscle you could possibly use. Then, with our last 10 minutes before the fitness center closes at 4:30, we do a cardio workout, ending the way we started. Going to the fitness center, especially with friends, is a really fun way to get in shape and stay in shape. We have every machine for every muscle you could imagine, and upperclassmen and teachers are always on hand to help you with your workout, so having no experience is not a problem. I think I speak for Ryan, Rich, and myself when I say we hope to see you during our next afternoon workout.
