On November 10, most of America woke to either good news or terribly horrific news. While most were ravaging through the internet in search of the electoral college map or individual state results, a South Georgia man decided to stay in hibernation and wait to hear the news a couple hours later. A couple of hours became a couple of days and ultimately, a full week after the election, he remained unaware of the results. While many wonder how this is possible, it is necessary to have the perfect conditions just as this man did. This man works from  home and has totally disconnected himself from television and social media. In fact, all his news was censored by his daughter who sent him updates on world news, never disclosing any election results. In addition to blocking all social media and television programming, this man, Joe Chandler, only went outside when he was fully equipped with headphones and a sign around his neck saying, “I don’t know who won and don’t want to. PLEASE DON’T TELL ME.”

After  being invited to speak at a local radio station, he could not resist not knowing who won, and he agreed to a big revelation. After an interview, the event proceeded and Chandler discovered that Donald Trump had become president-elect. After much hesitation, you would think he would be disappointed with whatever the result was, however, he expressed optimism and extreme hope for a “better America”. Many Americans have similar feelings about the election results, however, true optimism is found in Democrats and Republicans who have hope that Donald Trump will make America great, despite party lines.
