Digging Deep with Dr. Dorando

Dr. Frederick C. Dorando is one of our newest faculty members here at Oratory and there sure is a lot to learn about him. To begin, he is one of the most intelligent, interesting, and diverse teachers to pass through this school. After previously teaching Chemistry at Pequannock High School, Dr. Dorando wanted a change of environment. His love for Chemistry started in the great halls of his high school: DePaul Catholic. Going to science class was enjoyable for him and sparked his interest. He discovered that he had a strong interest in biochemistry. After high school, Dr. Dorando continued his studies at Rutgers where he received his undergraduate degree in Biochemistry. After receiving his undergraduate degree, he received an advanced degree in biochemistry from Dr. Robert K. Crane, the Department Chairman of the Rutgers Medical School. When asked about an “unknown fact” he had, Dr. Dorando mentioned that this particular school was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Chemistry. When we asked Dr. Dorando what he liked to do outside of school, we were astonished; he loves to study archaeology. As a science teacher this is not unusual, but we found it quite interesting because it is a hobby you don’t hear much about. If Dr. Dorando could travel anywhere in the world, he said he would love to visit Central America to research archaeology. After his first few weeks here at OP, he loves the environment because of the discipline of the OP students, as well their professional atmosphere and desire to learn.
