After Manchester United’s late loss against Southampton, United manager Louis Van Gaal reportedly offered his resignation to the club. He has been on the hot seat the whole season, and the rumors of him being replaced by former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho must have gotten to him. Mourinho has reportedly been gunning for Van Gaal’s position ever since he was sacked in December, after leading Chelsea to their fourth Premier League title. However, Van Gaal’s resignation was not accepted by vice-chairman Ed Woodward. This shocked all of English football, considering that he has been an outspoken critic of Van Gaal. After United’s loss, they now sit in fifth place, five points behind the fourth place Tottenham Hotspurs/Champions League Qualification.
