Game Awards 2015 Recap

Game+Awards+2015+Recap

Not long ago one of the biggest nights of gaming was upon us. The Game Awards is a new awards show for video games and the culture that surrounds it. The show awards the best game of the year, the best developer of the year, and best games in certain genres. This year’s show included many well known people, including Shaquille O’neal, Chvrches, and Reggie Fils-Aimé.

Out of all the games, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt by CD Projekt RED took home the most awards, including Best Game of the Year and Best RPG. Not only did Wild Hunt take home the most awards, it was also nominated six times out of the 16 possible awards. Following The Witcher 3 in most awards was Her Story by Sam Barlow, winning Best Narrative and Best Performance, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain by Kojima Productions, winning Best Action/Adventure Game and Best Score/Soundtrack, Rocket League by Psyonix, winning Best Indie game and Best Sports/Racing Game, and Splatoon by Nintendo, winning Best Multiplayer and Best Shooter. Of the other awards, Mortal Kombat X won Best Fighting Game, Ori and The Blind Forest won Best Art Direction, Super Mario Maker won Best Family Game, Lara Croft Go won Best Mobile Game, Life is Strange won the Games for Impact award, and CD Projekt RED won Best Developer.

Not only were games awarded, but many new games were revealed at the event. Some of these include Far Cry: Primal, a new addition to the Far Cry series set in primeval times; a Batman game by Telltale Games; The Walking Dead: Michonne, a new installment to Telltale Games’ Walking Dead series; Rock Band VR for the Oculus Rift; and Psychonauts 2, a revival of a well beloved game released in 2005. Of all the things happening at The Game Awards, the most interesting thing for me was a small little trailer, tucked away and overshadowed by everything else: ELeague. ELeague is a CS:GO league announced at The Game Awards that will be broadcast on live national television in the Summer of 2016.
