The NCAA Men’s Basketball season is upon us and this season looks to be one of the best in a while. So far each team has played about 6 games, with most teams being involved in some type of tournament. This year there looks to be many teams that will be in the thick of things come in March.

ACC

The ACC is one the best conferences in college basketball, like the SEC of football. The top team in the ACC looks to be Duke lead by stud Freshman Jahlil Okafor who is already penciled in as the number one pick in next year’s NBA draft. Duke is a complete team that already has a signature win against Wisconsin in Madison, which is no easy feat to achieve. Louisville, North Carolina, Virginia and Syracuse all expect to be among the top teams in the ACC. A surprise team to look out for is Jim Larranaga’s Miami squad, who have already upset Florida.

Big Ten

The Big Ten is the best conference in college basketball this year. The conference is one of the deepest conferences in recent history. As of now they have six teams ranked in the top 25 and the teams that aren’t ranked are teams that could make a run come tournament time. The top team is Wisconsin who is the #2 team in the country, who will likely move down a couple of spots after the aforementioned lose to Duke. Wisconsin is lead by big-man Frank Kaminsky who is widely considered the best player in college basketball. Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State are also great teams that will lead to an extremely competitive Big 10 conference finals tournament.

Big 12

The Big 12 is a sneaky conference. They have two powerhouse teams, Texas and Kansas, who are expected to achieve many great things this season. Kansas is lead by Perry Ellis who is a versatile player who plays on both sides of the court very effectively. Kansas also has a star freshman in Kelly Oubre who will bring the team explosiveness on offense. Texas is also a very impressive team and is ranked #6 nationally. They are a solid all around team that many experts say is one team this year who could have the best chance to beat Kentucky due to their size in the post.

SEC

The SEC overall is a fairly weak conference. Their most notable team is Kentucky who is one of the best-if not the best-teams in the country. Kentucky has 10 McDonalds All-Americans on their team and they are so deep that coach John Calipari has implemented a “platoon” rotation where he makes what is basically a line shift during games and puts a new group of five to replace the one that is on the court. Kentucky is so good and Calipari has figured out his rotation so well that it is hard to notice a difference between the two production wise. After Kentucky the SEC becomes weak with only one other ranked team, Arkansas.

Big East

The Big East is coming off of a down-year after a huge conference realignment. The Big East has a very good team in Villanova who are the favorites to win the conference. Teams like Butler, Georgetown, St. John’s and Creighton have both been very impressive early in the season. Georgetown and Villanova are projected to be at the top of the Big East. Villanova is lead by senior Jayvaughn Pinkston and are a solid overall team whose coach, Jay Wright, is one of the best out there and could be the biggest difference for the Wildcats this year. Georgetown is a strong team lead by D’Vauntes Smith-Rivera who is probably the best player in the Big East. Georgetown also has a great freshman class, including power forward Isaac Copeland that will play a key role this year and in years to come.
