The best time of the year has come, baseball season. Although there are many notable veterans, there are many successful youngsters who are bound to have a great season.
One player is 23-year old Braves’ shortstop Dansby Swanson. After a successful career at Vanderbilt University, Swanson was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks and eventually traded to Atlanta. He has already made his major league debut last year and finished the season nicely by getting 39 hits in 37 games and hitting .302. Atlanta did not do well last year and is comprised of many old players. However, Dansby will provide youth, motivation, and success to this team. This season will be his first full season as a starter and Dansby Swanson is predicted to be very productive.
Another player is catcher Gary Sanchez of the New York Yankees. The 24-year-old was called up late last season and was extremely productive. In just 201 at bats, he hit 20 home runs and had 42 RBIs. Meanwhile, he used his powerful cannon behind the plate and proved that he was capable of thriving in the big leagues. Because of this, he finished second in the American League Rookie of the Year Award. With Brian McCann gone, Sanchez will play his first full season behind the plate.
Corey Seager of the Los Angeles Dodgers is another young player that is filled with talent. The all-star, who won the National League Rookie of Year and finished 3rd in the MVP race, hit 26 home runs and batted .308. Although he is only 22 years old, he proved that he can be one of the best shortstops in the game.
Last season, shortstop Francisco Lindor led the Cleveland Indians to the world series against the Chicago Cubs, and he was only 23 years old. “Pacquito” was an all-star last season, hitting .301 with 78 RBIs and 15 home runs. Not only was he a consistent hitter, but he also displayed outstanding defense at shortstop. He earned the Gold Glove Award, Platinum Glove Award, and was named the winner of the 2016 Esurance MLB/This Year in Baseball Award for Best Defensive Player. In 2017, Lindor will aid Cleveland on the field and at the plate.
These 4 people are just a few of the dozens of young talented ball players who have the potential for a great season. As the season moves on, more youthful names will be heard because of their success on the field.
